Water hardness test
Water hardness test. Bottle for analysing total water hardness, complete with reagent and test tube.
The most commonly used unit of measurement for water hardness is French degrees (°F).
- Up to 7ºf = Very soft water
- From 7ºf to 14ºf = Soft water
- From 14ºf to 22ºf = Moderately hard water
- From 22ºf to 32ºf = Fairly hard water
- From 32ºf to 54ºf = Hard water
- Over 54ºf = Very hard water
Water hardness test instructions for use
With the water hardness test, it is possible to measure both 1°F and 0.5°F.
- Fill the test tube provided with up to 5 ml of the water to be analysed.
- Add the reagent one drop at a time, shaking the test tube after each drop. Count the drops added until the colour of the water in the test tube changes from red to green, bearing in mind that each drop is equivalent to 1°F.
Example: if the colour of the water changes from red to green after the twentieth drop of reagent you add, you have a hardness corresponding to 20°F.
If you prefer to measure 0.5°F, simply fill the test tube with water up to 10 ml, so that each drop is worth 0.5.
